Perfection
An optical illusion
It’s all a facade
We only show the world
What they wanna see
A shiny exterior
Head held high
Self-righteousness at the fore
We are perfect
Others aren’t
So we bully them
For the understanding they lack
An understanding we yet seek ourselves
Everything must be black or white
Gray areas are not permitted
Unless we revere the one at the gallows
We say “be good to others”
Because we want to be perceived as good
While our dark perversions
Take bite after bite of our souls
We are all different yet the same
Burying what we really feel
Trying to show others we are free
While being shackled in our minds
Then comes our kryptonite
“The Reality of who we are”
Behind the glamour
Is a disease that eats us up
From the inside out
The imperfections of our perfection.
